Skorcher band preview: Backy Skank
November 2nd 2006 04:26
Leading up to the Skorcher, a ska, reggae, mod and skinhead weekender, I am going to preview some of the bands playing at the event. The Skorcher is to be held in Sydney from December 1st - 3rd. Full details can be found at: http://www.dizzybeatnetwork.com/skorcher
Backy Skank
Backy Skank are Sydney's longest running ska band. Their sound harks back to the 2-tone period and not surprising as key members came from a Madness cover band, Complete Madness who toured the nation.
The band is made up of 2 front men, a keys player, guitarist, bass guitarist and a full horn section. They have headlined many a gig and are a favourite party band, known to get people up on to the dance floor. They have also supported bands such as The Beat, Neville Staple and The Strange Tenants. They've also been around long enough to play with other great Aussie ska bands such as The Allniters, Loin Groin, The Hangovers, Dr. Raju and more recently bands such as The Ska Vendors and The Signals.
Like The Booby Traps, they frequently play Skorch gigs, including Mods Mayday 2004, 2005, and many a SkaBQ.
They have an EP, which is sold out, as well as a full lenth album, Suited and Booted. Get along to see them as part of the weekender!
