Reggae - A daily blog

I was on the radio today

November 24th 2006 01:48
This morning I went on Jason's show "Bass Culture" on 2RRR 88.5 FM. It's on from 8 am - 10 am every Friday and I recommend it to all Sydney lovers of reggae, from ska and rocksteady to roots and dancehall. A little something for everyone.

I went on to plug the Skorcher Weekender coming up - Dec 1st - 3rd 2006 and I played a few tunes from the bands featured and some other top ska and reggae tunes.

Here is some of what I chose to play:

Steel Pulse - Ku Klux Klan
Rico - Jungle Music
Dandy Livingstone - Susan Beware of the Devil

Soul Sisters - Wreck A Buddy
The Signals - Keep You
Ska Vendors - Oil in my Lamp
Booby Traps - Be My Caveman
Backy Skank - Tokyo Japan
The Valentines - Blam Blam Fever

I played others, but that's it off the top of my head. Jason threw in some roots, a couple of Gregory Isaacs tunes and a bit of early ska. My pick of his tracks was Queen of the Minstrels by Cornell Campbell. Very jealous of him having that on 45!

Well it is attributed to Cornell Campbell, but it does sound like a vocal group doesn't it.

In view of the fact that likers and appreciaters of reggae and ska are reading, may I recommend a track I came across ("somewhere in the hills"). True to the orginal sound of early reggae, it has a blue, moody, spare but melodic jazz solo (unusually, on guitar; the early reggae solos were almost exclusively horns), over traditional rhythm. I say check it out!
