Dub Cricket and 45 RPM
June 8th 2006 03:16
Just a quick post to make up for no post yesterday. Will pull out a more substantial blog this evening.
The very fantastic Dub Cricket is apparently no more. Dub Cricket was a night in Sydney that was held every so often down underneath the railway bridge in Jubillee Park in Glebe. They would play everything from 60s reggae and ska to jungle, dancehall and even drum and bass (to my displeasure). It was meant to be on Sat 17th June, but apparently it has been canned due to noise complaints.
This is a problem facing not only reggae gigs, but music everywhere. Stupid yuppies spend a shitload of money moving into what were traditionally working class areas with heaps of pubs hosting music and deciding they don't want to put up with a bit of noise. It is the city! Move to the country if you don't like noise. Anyway, it's a shame as this was a great night where you mixed freezing in the cold with longneck in hand with dancing in this clubhouse underneath a railway to sweet reggae tunes.
Next weekend Sydneysiders do have something to go to though. It is time for 45 RPM. Friday 16th June @ Dimitris Restaurant on Cleveland Street. There is a website for it now over at 45rpmsydney.com. Check it out and come along.
