Moon Ska Europe

Thought I might continue taking a look at a few reggae and ska record labels, particularly ones I think are releasing some good stuff. I mentioned Trojan Records – Kings of the reissue, but of course there are others.
For a mix of genres, Moon Ska Europe seems to offer a good range of releases. They put out records by bands playing new slants on ska and reggae while satisfying traditionalists. The name Moon Ska has a long history, first starting in New York City. Though they went under, Moon Ska Europe continues to make an impact. So much so they are changing their name to Moon Ska World. This is to reflect moving towards bands like Dub City Rockers and Chris Murray.
Dub City Rockers play upbeat funky reggae with some excellent toasting vocals mixed with soulful ones that have taken the world by storm. Their debut release is coming in the form of a limited edition 7”. They have also done a song with the great Chris Murray, adding a new slant to his acoustic style with Do the Ska.
Also on the label are legends like Selecter, who have been consistently releasing good albums well after many bands of the 2-tone era stopped doing so. The original Moon Ska band The Toasters are on there too, making it decades of experience on the label. Add to this hugely popular UK punk/ska bands [Spunge] and Sonic Boom Six and you have a huge roster of good talent. The UK is one place a ska/reggae record label can still make a go of it. For some downloads of what they offer, check out the Moon Ska Europe mp3 page. I recommend Dub City Rockers’ – Trojan City Love, The Hotknives – Cryin, Chris Murray – Caliafornia Time and Marron Town – City Riot.
