Reggae night Dancefloor

As 45 RPM is on tonight (Dimitris Cleveland St, Surry Hills Sydney), I thought I would suggest ten songs I want to hear to get me out on the dancefloor. Keeping in mind the DJs don’t go obscure on us at this club, playing to a pretty broad Sydney crowd, so the songs here will be pretty well known. In no particular order:
Toots and the Maytals
Anything by toots really, but Sweet and Dandy would be nice.
The Specials
I’m sure a specials song will be thrown in, perhaps multiple Specials tracks will be. I’d like to hear Do the Dog, an underrated song by the great English 2-tone ska band.
Prince Buster
The beautiful rough and tough raw voice of the Voice of the People packs a floor. Sit and Wonder would be nice, though I’d expect Whine and Grine or Rough Rider.
Althea and Donna
As a crowd pleaser - definitely Uptown Top Ranking. After a few drinks this song is music to you ears, quite literally!
The Gladiators
Although I don’t really like the direction The Gladiators went in – saw them a couple of years ago and they didn’t impress all that much. That said, them doing Sweet Soul Music is a wonderful tune.
Steel Pulse
Best roots band ever. I don’t actually expect to hear anything by them, but I’d like to hear Reggae Fever or Taxi Driver. Might have to wait to play Steel Pulse next time.
The Skatalites
Have to throw an instrumental into the mix and who best than the Skatalites to provide it. Something a bit exotic, how about Cleopatra Mr DJ?
Owen Gray
Should be plenty of soul tonight, so how bout Jamaican Owen Gray doing Can I Get a Witness
The Pioneers
Reggae Fever is a great skinhead reggae tune from this band. Skinhead reggae is perhaps the best genre to really bust a move with that quicker shuffle.
Ken Boothe
You can’t forget rocksteady and so why not have the man of the moment. The song This is rocksteady would make sense then wouldn’t it?
The Beat
One more – I know I can’t count. I love 2-tone as much as the next guy so to finish off the list, I’ll go with Hands Off She’s Mine. I’m sure I will hear the occasional song from my list and many others that will get me on the floor. See you there, perhaps?
