Sydney weekend of reggae
September 5th 2006 11:30
Saturday night was a top night. We decided we were going to take in both Sydney nights playing the reggae and I am glad we did.
First up we headed over to The Brighton Up Bar for Dynamite - a strictly reggae night supported by Sound Jazz Records. I was pleased to score another CD as we headed in - very nice people supportive of their crowd.
It was a bit slower to get going this time with less people knowing what it was all about in terms of dancing - I wondered whether some people didn't know why they were there. The sounds though were great and we danced for a good stint until it was time to head off to the next night of the evening.
45 RPM was at a new venue and we wondered whether this would result in a smaller turnout, but we were pleasantly surprised to see a good crowd, including a dancefloor that was well populated. The reggae and ska were excellent, particularly from Max and Nick and the company was also good.
The next 45 rpm is on Sat October 7th at HQ Bar, the day after the Beat play in Sydney. I think the next Dynamite may be later in October to coincide with the ghoulish date of Halloween, but more on that soon.
