A remake of the Madness film, Take It or Leave It?

In my inbox this morning I found, as I always do on a Monday morning, the Madness Information Service weekly newsletter.
In it there was some interesting news, that continues on from the last two blogs, about films based around ska and reggae. The first was a review of excellent skinhead film This is England and the second was news of a movie titled Clubbed based around the emerging 2-tone ska scene in Coventry in the late 1970s to be released early next year.
Well it seems this era of music and life in England is a popular one. Dave Robinson who owns the rights to the film based on the beginnings of Madness, Take It or Leave, has sold the rights to American production company, Pirone Pictures.
In the MIS newsletter, it says screenplay writer Ronan Bennett is working on an embellished version of Take It or Leave It, taking key scenes and making it a part of a new gangster movie. It only has a working title, and is in its early stages, but it looks as though it could be made.
In many ways, this is exciting news. I love films with ska and reggae as a focus and even ganster films in general. I do worry about Americans getting a hold of things like this though. They are quite British experiences and although they don't do it on purpose, Americans can miss the point or throw money trying to get a style when we all know style isn't something that can be bought.
I hope I am in wrong this time around!
