The perfect weather for ska and reggae videos
June 7th 2007 03:33
With the rain we're getting today in Sydney town I thought it would be fitting to watch a few videos. Ska and reggae are well represented on youtube, with clips and live footage from all over the world. You can easily find something new and exciting just by browsing around a little.
Laurel Aitken
The first video that took my fancy was of Laurel Aitken performing with a band called the Cookamackastick in Spain in 2003. The song is Bar Tender and the clip actually comes from a DVD of the entire gig I'd like to get my hands on. There probably aren't too many more high quality videos of the Godfather of Ska since this performance due to his sad passing. If you want the DVD, it's 15 euros from cookoomacka.com.
Or watch the video here.
The Heptones
This is an interesting little video. The song is Christmas Time is Here by the great rocksteady vocal group The Heptones, but the video is actually a clay animation. Fantastic.

Intensified
This UK band have been about some time now, but they remain one of the best bands playing 60s Jamaican music. There is a cool clip with them playing with the great Chris Murray, but the sound is out of sync, so here they are doing the very lovely Angels and You. Beautiful.
